Therapeutic Style

First and foremost, I believe in collaboration. That means that you get to decide what we focus on in therapy.  But don’t worry, I will also have many ideas to help steer the direction of our work, and we will do it together as a team.  I believe in insight-oriented treatment. How you came to be where you are today and the experiences and messages you got from those around you during childhood are important information.  It often shapes who you are and how you react to situations today.  Last but certainly not least, I believe in behavioral change.  That’s why you are coming to therapy.  You want change.  And interestingly enough, many problematic behaviors (example: cutting or drinking too much) arise as an attempt to cope with an overwhelming psychological experience.

If that is the case, it’s time to learn new coping skills.  Ones that are effective for you in the long run.

But what am I really like?

Clients have described me as insightful, knowledgeable, disarming, and easy to talk to. From reading my website you have probably figured out that I pride myself on being approachable and that I take being a part of your support system seriously.

The bottom line….

If you choose to work with me, I would be absolutely honored to be a part of your journey.  I am constantly awed by the courage it takes to address psychological challenges, especially those of a traumatic nature.  Change is daunting.  Addressing exactly what you want to avoid most can be overwhelming.  But deep down inside, most people know when it is time to take a calculated risk and let go of the side of the pool. Just remember, if you choose to work with me or another therapist, change is absolutely obtainable, and you don’t need to do it by yourself.

You will know when it is time.  Go for it.
